Temple Chambers is pleased to announce that Matthew Gearing KC has joined Chambers as an Arbitrator Member.
Matthew is recognised globally as a leading practitioner in international arbitration, for both commercial and investor-state disputes, with experience spanning a variety of sectors including technology, financial services, energy, natural resources, and manufacturing. Matthew was Chairperson of the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre from 2017-2020 and is now a Vice-President of the LCIA Court. He is on the panel of arbitrators of HKIAC, SIAC, and AIAC (formerly known as KLRCA), having sat as arbitrator in cases across a full range of contractual matters, a variety of seats around the world, and many different sets of institutional rules, as well as investment treaty matters. He is a long-standing editor of Russell on Arbitration.
Matthew practised at a magic circle law firm for almost 25 years, mostly based in Hong Kong. He took Silk (England & Wales) in 2014 and moved to the Bar (London) in 2021. Matthew qualified as a solicitor in Hong Kong in 2001 and became a solicitor-advocate in 2013 (he is now non-practising as a Hong Kong solicitor). In addition to taking arbitrator mandates in Hong Kong, Matthew also maintains an active practice out of Fountain Court Chambers in London and Singapore. He is also called to the Bar in Western Australia.
